The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered has been released, offering a significant overhaul for owners of the original game. The update introduces a variety of new features and improvements, accessible from the main menu through options like Combat Training, Mods, and Patch Highlights. A key focus of the remaster is the enhancement of visuals and performance. Nearly every element, from non-player characters to environmental details like bushes, has been updated. The game also features reworked lighting for increased realism and the addition of path tracing for PC players.
CD Projekt Red has also reimagined the skill system to provide a more flexible and refined progression. The photo mode has been expanded with more settings, poses, frames, and filters, allowing players to even place other character models within their shots. Combat has seen improvements as well, with new finishers and a tweaked dynamic camera. A notable addition is the transmogrification feature, which allows players to alter Geralt's appearance to their preferred outfit while retaining the stats of their best equipment.
Other enhancements include expanded mod support, which is noted as being available even for the Nintendo Switch 2, and a revamped meditation mechanic that displays the passage of time in real-time, replacing the previous fade-to-black effect. Players can now access a combat tutorial directly from the main menu, allowing them to jump straight into practice sessions with Vesemir without playing through the opening cutscenes. This feature, along with the game's existing cross-saving functionality, should facilitate players returning to their saved games.
The remastered version also introduces a new default camera angle for exploration, which is wider than previous iterations. Players have the option to revert to the original 2015 camera or the closer camera from the 2022 next-gen update through the menu settings. For Nintendo Switch 2 players, the remaster adds motion controls for camera adjustment and actions, as well as mouse controls for navigating the map and inventory.
According to a trailer released by CD Projekt Red, the update includes a comprehensive list of new features: upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, revamped mount handling, improved monster behaviors, a revamped skill tree, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, new combat finishers, cross-platform mods, immersive meditation, refined animations, a new quest tracking system, UI improvements, a looting rework, refreshed motion blur, new accessibility features, updated textures, foliage shading rework, tutorial modernization, HDR improvements, ground truth ambient occlusion (GTAO), improved menu navigation, ray tracing improvements, global lighting rework, a new shading model, subsurface scattering, a new tone mapper, PlayStation 5 Pro support, Xbox Play Anywhere support, and Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive features. The PC version also benefits from Nvidia DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, Intel XESS 2.0, path tracing, and ray reconstruction. The remaster includes both of The Witcher 3's expansions at no additional cost. It is a free update for all existing owners of the game across all platforms. Those who do not yet own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can purchase it at a 50% discount on Steam and the PlayStation Store.
