CD Projekt Red's next major installment in The Witcher saga, often referred to as The Witcher 4, is currently targeting a 2028 release window, according to co-CEO Michał Nowakowski. He shared this information in a video released ahead of Gamescom.

Nowakowski stated that over 500 developers are working on the game, describing it as "our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date." He highlighted plans for a large and immersive open world, intense action-packed gameplay, and a deep, impactful story. However, he acknowledged that an exact release date could not yet be shared, emphasizing that the 2028 target provides flexibility.

"Targeting" the year suggests CD Projekt Red is allowing for potential delays, a learning presumably drawn from the development cycles of both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, which experienced multiple postponements. "I know it's a bit of a wait, but let the team cook," Nowakowski remarked, expressing confidence that the final product will justify the extended development period. The Witcher franchise's official social media channels also teased announcements regarding the series' future, inviting fans to follow updates from Gamescom.
