The Witcher 4 is officially targeting a 2028 release window, CD Projekt Red joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed in a video update shared on social media. While the game will not be present at Gamescom's Opening Night Live or playable on the show floor, Nowakowski addressed fan anticipation for the sequel.
"While we're not showing the Witcher 4 at the event, and we're not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window," Nowakowski stated. "I know it's a bit of a wait, and you'd love to play it sooner, but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait."
The upcoming RPG was first revealed at The Game Awards 2024 and will feature Ciri as the main protagonist, years after she has become a seasoned Witcher. The announcement comes ahead of CD Projekt Red's presence at Gamescom, where the studio will showcase new content for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, a DLC for the nearly decade-old title. This new DLC is confirmed to be featured during Opening Night Live and will also be playable at CD Projekt Red's booth. It is speculated that "Songs of the Past" may serve to connect the previous mainline entries in the series.
