CD Projekt Red has officially set a target release window for the highly anticipated RPG, The Witcher 4, aiming for sometime in 2028. The developer shared this information in a new video that also previews their presence at the upcoming Gamescom.
While The Witcher 4 itself will not be a focus at Gamescom, CD Projekt Red plans to showcase the new "Songs of the Past" DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt during the event. Additionally, the company has teased "a surprise or two" that will be revealed during planned livestreams throughout Gamescom.
More than 500 employees are currently dedicated to the development of The Witcher 4. CD Projekt Red joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski described the project as "our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date." He acknowledged the considerable wait for the title, stating, "I know it's a bit of a wait, and you'd love to play it sooner--but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait."
The upcoming RPG is set to be the first in a new trilogy of Witcher games, with The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 also planned for release within a six-year span, potentially concluding the trilogy by 2034. However, Nowakowski emphasized that the 2028 release for The Witcher 4 is a target and that delays, similar to those experienced with The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, are possible.
Beyond the new Witcher trilogy and the Songs of the Past DLC, CD Projekt Red's development slate includes Cyberpunk 2, a new Witcher game reportedly featuring multiplayer, and a title being developed in partnership with Scopely.
