Andrzej Sapkowski, the creator of The Witcher saga, has confirmed that he is actively working on his next novel, which will once again feature Geralt of Rivia. The acclaimed author is targeting a 2027 completion date for the new book.
Speaking at the Copernicon convention in Poland, Sapkowski revealed that he has already outlined the story and is currently writing. While narrative details are being kept under wraps, he indicated that the "sky is the limit" for future stories within the universe, particularly prequels. This focus on Geralt aligns with previous comments Sapkowski made, where he suggested extensive room for further exploration of the character's past.
Sapkowski also expressed openness to returning to the short story format, which launched his Witcher series with 'The Last Wish.' He noted that crafting effective short stories is significantly more challenging than writing novels, but acknowledged that success in this format is a testament to writing mastery. He is considering writing more short stories.
If Sapkowski meets his 2027 target, readers in Poland could see the new novel released in late 2027 or 2028, with English translations likely following in late 2028 or 2029. This estimated four-year gap between his latest work and 'Crossroads of Ravens' would represent Sapkowski's most rapid output since 'The Lady of the Lake' in 1999.
The Witcher universe continues to expand beyond novels, with a series of full-cast audiobook dramas scheduled for release through late 2026 and 2027. These will include 'Crossroads of Ravens,' 'The Last Wish,' and 'Sword of Destiny.'
