Andrzej Sapkowski, the celebrated creator of The Witcher, has expressed his openness to unconventional adaptations of his fantasy series. Responding to a question about potential stage productions, similar to what is being explored with Game of Thrones, Sapkowski stated he is "open to suggestions. Even unconventional ones."
This sentiment extends to various formats, as The Witcher has already seen numerous adaptations, including video games, a live-action Netflix series, animated films, and comic books. Notably, the franchise has previously ventured into musical territory with productions in Poland, a fact Sapkowski acknowledged.
The expansive Witcher universe is set to grow further with several upcoming projects. CD Projekt Red is releasing The Witcher 3: Remastered on September 29, with a new expansion, Songs of the Past, slated for 2027. The highly anticipated The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release and will feature Ciri as the protagonist.
In literature, Sapkowski is currently writing his next Witcher novel, aiming for completion in 2027. He also indicated a potential return to short stories, suggesting ample room to explore Geralt's earlier life, stating, "Room? Sky is the limit."
The publishing side of the franchise is also expanding with full-cast audio drama adaptations of Sapkowski's books planned for 2026 and 2027, starting with Crossroads of Ravens. Meanwhile, Netflix's live-action The Witcher is expected to conclude with its fifth and final season in 2027.
