The immediate future brings the launch of The Witcher 3 Remastered on September 29, offering significant technical and graphical improvements, a revamped skill system, an expanded photo mode, enhanced combat, and a new transmog feature. This remaster will be a free update for existing owners of the game.
Following the remaster, the first major new content drop will be the expansion "Songs of the Past" for The Witcher 3, slated for a 2027 release. Originally planned for 2026, the expansion's delay aims to ensure a polished experience as Geralt embarks on a final adventure before passing the torch. This expansion will introduce a new main quest, "A Bed of Thorns," set in the home of Geralt's bard companion, Dandelion, and will feature a potential new love interest for Geralt named Lilla.
Further expanding the lore in 2027, Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski has indicated plans to conclude the next novel in the series by the end of that year. While the exact release date remains unclear, a new book promises to continue Geralt of Rivia's story.
Looking ahead to 2028, CD Projekt Red is set to release The Witcher 4, which will shift focus to Ciri as the playable protagonist, though Geralt will also make an appearance. Given its projected release, the game is expected to adopt digital distribution, though some form of physical version is anticipated.
The long-term vision includes a new trilogy of Witcher games, beginning with The Witcher 4 in 2028.
