A new series of full-cast audio dramas based on Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher novels is slated for release in 2026 and 2027, aiming to immerse listeners with ensemble casts, original music, and detailed sound design. This approach moves away from traditional single-narrator audiobooks to create a more dynamic listening experience.
The series will begin with Crossroads of Ravens, Sapkowski's latest novel and a prequel focusing on an 18-year-old Geralt of Rivia. The cast for this adaptation includes Sam Stafford as Young Geralt, Richard Armitage as mentor Preston Holt, Clare Corbett as Nenneke, Tom Alexander as Artamon of Asguth, and Peter Kenny as the narrator, among others.
Following Crossroads of Ravens, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny are scheduled for release in November 2026. The publisher intends to adapt the remainder of Sapkowski's Witcher saga across 2027.
This full-cast audio drama format has seen a surge in popularity, with similar adaptations released for franchises such as Alien, Sandman, and Assassin's Creed. GraphicAudio has established a business model around this style with its "movie in your mind" adaptations, and Amazon has achieved success with its full-cast Harry Potter audio dramas.
The Witcher's foray into full-cast audio is significant given the existing breadth of adaptations for the franchise, which already includes globally successful video games, TV series, animated films, and comics. These new audio dramas offer fans another avenue to experience Geralt's adventures through distinct performances.
This expansion into audio drama arrives as other Witcher projects are also in development. CD Projekt Red is preparing The Witcher 3: Remastered for release on September 29 and has announced the Songs of the Past expansion DLC for the following year. The Witcher 4 is tentatively planned for 2028, with Ciri as the main protagonist. Netflix's live-action adaptation is heading into its fifth and final season, expected in 2027 after a reported delay. Author Andrzej Sapkowski has confirmed that his next Witcher novel is underway and targeted for completion in 2027. He has also indicated that he is considering writing more short stories and exploring Geralt's earlier life.
