Netflix's The Witcher Season 5 has reportedly been delayed and is now slated for a 2027 release. The information comes from a report by What's on Netflix, suggesting the show's fifth and final season will not meet its previously anticipated 2026 release.

This potential delay is notable given that filming for Season 5 reportedly took place throughout 2025 and was believed to have concluded in September of that year. If these reports are accurate, the delay would mean a significant wait for viewers, extending the post-production period to over a year since the premiere of Season 4.

The Witcher series on Netflix has faced considerable fan scrutiny since its inception. Initial criticism arose around the casting of Henry Cavill as Geralt in 2018. Following two seasons, Cavill announced his departure from the role, with Season 3 marking his final appearance as the White Wolf.

Liam Hemsworth took over the role of Geralt starting with Season 4. The series has also been the subject of reports concerning writers' perceived disrespect for the source material, contributing to a mixed reception among fans.

Season 4 of The Witcher received a lukewarm response from critics and audiences. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 59% score from critics and a low 19% from general audiences. Viewership figures for the season were also reportedly disappointing in its opening week. IGN awarded Season 4 a 7/10.

Additionally, Season 4 saw a recast for the character Vesemir, with Peter Mullan taking over the role from Kim Bodnia. Netflix has not yet officially announced a release date for The Witcher Season 5 or provided reasons for any potential schedule changes.
