Nightdive Studios has made compatibility with the extensive fan mission (FM) community a high priority for the upcoming Thief Remastered. Producer Daniel Grayshon stated on the Nightdive Deep Dive podcast that ensuring fan creations are easily accessible for PC players was a significant focus during development.

"There's been a very dedicated community that has created all sorts of wonderful additions to the game, and a lot of that has not gone unnoticed," Grayshon explained. "Compatibility with those is extremely important, and that's what we're working on very heavily to ensure that when you buy a copy of the game on PC, you'll be able to very easily and very quickly get set up with whatever fan mission you would like to play."

While Nightdive aims to support as many FMs as possible, Grayshon acknowledged that resources are finite. "We're doing our best to make sure that we have a good compatibility across the board with everything that we can test given the time that we have. There's a lot of content out there, but we're doing our best."

One particular fan campaign, The Black Parade, has been singled out as a critical piece of content Nightdive is working to ensure is playable from day one. This 10-mission campaign, released in 2023 and overseen by Arkane Lyon level designer Romain Barrilliot, has garnered significant acclaim and won ModDB's number one mod of the year. Grayshon noted the strong community anticipation for how The Black Parade would perform in the remastered engine.

"Obviously the big one in the room is The Black Parade," Grayshon said. "It won ModDB's number one mod of the year, I think, that year. And just by looking at people's reactions to our announcement, I noticed that they will talk about 'Oh, I can't wait to see how The Black Parade runs in this.'"

Grayshon confirmed that the studio is working diligently to achieve compatibility for The Black Parade and other popular fan missions, driven by community feedback and the mod's recognized quality. The focus on fan missions reflects their importance to the Thief player base, with many fans eager to experience these ambitious community projects in the updated game. This effort comes alongside other recent Thief-related announcements, including a graphic novel and merchandise, indicating a renewed interest in the series.
