Instead, they discovered each trailer was filled with 20,000 pounds of sand. The sand was part of an autonomous truck load simulation by Nvidia and its partner PlusAI.
The theft was discovered when a PlusAI executive received a tip from a friend who had seen the trailers parked outside their Newark office. PlusAI was able to recover both trailers and their contents, as the thieves had apparently abandoned them. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The more valuable components, the tech-equipped trucks themselves, remained secured inside a warehouse.
