Ubisoft's upcoming release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced this July offers players a return to the Caribbean's high-seas exploration, and for those eager for expansive environments, there are several other open-world games available to explore in the meantime.

Pearl Abyss's Crimson Desert, reportedly in development for seven years, presents a sprawling medieval world filled with monsters and adventure. Since its March launch, the game has achieved over 5 million units sold. The developers continue to provide free updates that refine the experience and introduce quality-of-life improvements, with paid DLC also in development.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers more medieval action, combining deep narration with a memorable campaign and side quests within a world that feels authentically lived-in. Players step into the shoes of Henry of Skalitz, a commoner whose fate is shaped by player choices. The combat is challenging, particularly in the early stages, but the game provides ample opportunities to prepare for greater endeavors, emphasizing realistic consequences for player freedom.

Capcom revived its Dragon's Dogma franchise in 2024 with Dragon's Dogma 2, a sequel set in a dark medieval world where adventurers battle monsters. While the world may not initially seem vast, numerous side quests add considerable depth. The hostile wastelands are engaging to explore, and though a more convenient fast-travel system would be welcome, the combat is lively and rewarding as players unlock new skills and experiment with the class system. A Nintendo Switch 2 port is also planned for 2026.

With these three compelling open-world titles available, the wait for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced may pass quickly.
