Toastie Transforms the iPhone Duo into a Virtual Grilled Cheese Maker

The recent release of Apple's foldable iPhone Duo has spurred developers to explore unique applications for its dual-screen design. Among the earliest and most peculiar is Toastie, a game that effectively repurposes the $2,000 device into a digital grilled cheese maker. Players can select ingredients, fold the iPhone Duo to simulate toasting, and aim for a perfectly cooked sandwich.

This culinary simulation comes with a modest price tag of $3, which developer Tom Szykulski humorously notes is less than a real grilled cheese. For this price, players gain access to "10 orders, 3 loaves, and 14 things to put between them." The game evaluates the player's creation based on recipe accuracy, plating, toasting quality, and preparation time, awarding a star rating. For users without the foldable hardware, Toastie can also be played on standard iPhones and iPads, focusing solely on the sandwich-making mechanics.

Szykulski and fellow developer Cyprian Brytan developed Toastie over an extended period, describing the process as taking "over more evenings than either of them planned." Apple unveiled its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, in September, and for those awaiting delivery, accessories such as protective cases are already available.
