Bethesda's chief Todd Howard has made a rare public comment on Reddit, stating that the developer is "constantly listening” to feedback from the community. This direct engagement, unusual for Howard, has predictably led to fans voicing their immediate requests, with a prominent call for further patches to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

Howard's post appeared in the r/games subreddit following Bethesda's recent announcement of its future release roadmap. He characterized himself as a "professional lurker" who draws "great ideas" from the platform and encouraged fans to continue providing their feedback and suggestions for future Bethesda titles. This marks Howard's first comment on Reddit in six months, a period that has also seen significant layoffs across Xbox, impacting Bethesda and its studios as part of Microsoft's strategic refocus on core franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

Fans quickly seized upon Howard's invitation for input. One of the first responses urged the developer to continue supporting Oblivion Remastered. "Thanks Todd. Please get Virtuous to keep patching Oblivion and give it as much love as you guys gave Skyrim, because it feels abandoned right now which is a shame," commented Redditor GamerLove1. Reports indicate that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has not received a patch on PC since July 2025, and still suffers from performance issues that were present at launch, including degradation over extended play sessions.

Despite the apparent lack of recent updates, Oblivion Remastered has been a significant success for Bethesda. The title, which was remade using Unreal Engine 5 with assistance from Virtuos, has attracted over 9 million players. Howard himself expressed satisfaction with the game's performance in a December interview, noting the studio was "really, really pleased with how well it did." The game is scheduled to launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, 2026, leading to speculation that a comprehensive update for all versions might coincide with this release.

In other Bethesda news, the company plans a special event to celebrate Fallout's 30th anniversary in 2027, with a live celebration planned in Washington, D.C. This year, there will be no traditional Fallout Day broadcast. Additionally, Bethesda is set to release a major expansion for Fallout 76 next year, titled Raven Rock, which will serve as a prequel narrative to Fallout 3.
