Amazon's upcoming Tomb Raider title, Catalyst, has been delayed and is now slated for a 2028 release. This news comes from Jeffrey Gattis, Amazon's head of gaming, who confirmed the shift in schedule during a conversation with The Game Business.

Catalyst, which is a new entry in the long-running series, was initially expected to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game is set to transport Lara Croft to India for a new archaeological adventure. This latest delay adds to a series of challenges for Amazon's Tomb Raider revival.

The first announced Tomb Raider game from Amazon's partnership with Crystal Dynamics, a remake of the original titled Legacy of Atlantis, has also faced delays. Originally scheduled for release this year, it was pushed to February 2027. Concerns have been raised about this remake, with some describing it as feeling "strangely double-A."

Development on Legacy of Atlantis has also involved the use of AI, a detail that Crystal Dynamics' director of experience Jeff Adams stated helped the team "get to [the] right answers faster." Further details on the AI implementation were not provided by Amazon's PR when queried.

Beyond the game delays, the Tomb Raider franchise under Amazon has experienced other difficulties. The live-action TV show on Amazon Prime halted production earlier this year due to an on-set injury to lead actor Sophie Turner, though filming has since resumed. Additionally, Crystal Dynamics has undergone multiple rounds of layoffs, with 20 staff members affected in June, marking the fourth round of such cuts in less than a year.
