Embracer Group has narrowed the release window for Tomb Raider: Catalyst, now targeting an early 2028 launch. Previously slated for a vague 2028 release, the company indicated in its latest earnings report that the game is expected within its fiscal year 27/28, which concludes in April 2028. This adjustment follows an earlier delay from an initial 2027 target.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set to be the first entirely new game in the franchise since 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which concluded the Survivor Trilogy. It will also serve as the next installment in the series' unified timeline, bridging the narrative gap between the Survivor games and earlier titles. For lore continuity, Catalyst will follow the events of 2008's Tomb Raider: Underworld.
The developer, Crystal Dynamics, was acquired by Embracer Group in 2022 and has experienced subsequent layoffs, including a recent round in March that affected 20 employees.
In the interim, players can anticipate Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of Lara Croft's debut adventure. Originally scheduled for release this year, it was also delayed and is now set to launch on February 12, 2027. The remake was announced in 2025, alongside Catalyst.
Embracer's fiscal update also mentioned other upcoming titles. Darksiders 4 and the next entry in the Kingdom Come franchise are also planned for release before the end of the 27/28 fiscal year. The company noted the strong performance of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 as a factor in continued investment in the series.
