Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has emerged as an unexpected sales juggernaut on the Nintendo Switch 2, surpassing the performance of several major Nintendo franchises. The life simulation game has sold a total of 7.96 million units, according to Nintendo's latest financial report. This figure places it significantly ahead of other 2026 releases, including Star Fox and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which have each sold fewer than one million copies.

Even the latest installment in the popular Pokémon series, Pokémon Pokopia, has sold at least 3.6 million copies as of early June. While this number does not include Japanese sales, which are tracked separately by The Pokémon Company, it still positions Pokopia among the top five best-selling Switch 2 games. The current sales data suggests that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has outsold multiple long-standing Nintendo franchises combined.

This success is particularly noteworthy given that the Switch 2 is the fastest-selling Nintendo console to date. Players familiar with the game have pointed to its unique premise and social media-friendly moments as key factors in its appeal. The title allows for a surprising degree of player freedom, enabling the inclusion of content that might typically be censored on other platforms. This lack of strict censorship has, according to reports, contributed to the game's distinctiveness within Nintendo's lineup of established video game series.
