Creative Assembly has announced a September 24 release date for Total War: Warhammer 3's upcoming expansion, Lords of the End Times. The studio describes the DLC as "the biggest DLC that we’ve ever released in the series 10-year history," and it will introduce four new legendary lords, each bringing unique campaign and battle map abilities.

Accompanying the paid expansion will be a significant free update. This update is set to add the Vampire Queen Neferata as a legendary lord, alongside a rework for the Vampire Counts faction and Archaon The Everchosen. It will also include new endgame scenarios and updated victory conditions.

The Lords of the End Times expansion will feature Nagash, the necromancer king, who aims to collect magic books and rally his Mortarch lieutenants. To achieve his goals, Nagash must contend with the Skaven legendary lord Thanquol, also known as the grey seer. Thanquol, who rides a rat ogre, can execute masterplans, such as heists and rituals, designed to sabotage his rivals, though these schemes can sometimes backfire.

The Empire faction gains a new elector count named Boris Todbringer. His campaign mechanics revolve around defeating enemies to build fervor, which can then be used to construct a large wolf temple, upgrade its sanctuaries, and perform winter rites to bolster his armies. Boris is also armed with a sword named Legbiter.

Challenging these new lords are the Glottkin, the Befouled Brothers of the Chaos god Nurgle. This faction excels at spreading corruption, transforming settlements into plague gardens that grant them access to a greater proportion of Daemonic Nurgle units compared to other Warriors of Chaos factions. The Glottkin are presented as three individuals: two brothers who ride on the shoulders of the third, with one wielding a scythe and the other a staff.

While the exact contents of the free update are still being detailed, the addition of Neferata and the reworks for existing characters and factions suggest a substantial gameplay evolution for Total War: Warhammer 3 players. The scale of both the DLC and the free update indicates Creative Assembly's continued commitment to the grand strategy title.
