Creative Assembly has revealed that Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will not be receiving any direct sequels. Instead, the developer intends to continuously update and expand the base game, transforming it into a comprehensive sandbox experience.

Battle product owner Dave Petry explained that this approach aligns with the vastness of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. "It's just such a huge galaxy to fill," Petry stated, emphasizing that the team wants to build a single, expansive world where players can engage with all aspects of the game. This contrasts with the previous Total War: Warhammer trilogy, which explored the fantasy setting across multiple titles.

The development strategy for Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will involve major releases and significant content updates of varying sizes. The studio aims to consolidate content and features into one place, similar to the "Immortal Empires" concept seen in previous installments. This focus on a singular, evolving title allows the development team to refine mechanics and address issues collaboratively over time.

Players can expect the game to launch with four customizable factions: Space Marines, Aeldari, Orks, and Astra Militarum. Future content plans include additional factions such as the Space Wolves, Genestealers, and Chaos Space Marines.

Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is currently slated for release in 2027. The game is available to wishlist on Steam.
