Toxic Frontier trailer drops, revealing a roguelike card-based city builder

The world premiere trailer for Toxic Frontier has been revealed at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, showcasing a unique roguelike card-based city builder that has already proven addictive.

Toxic Frontier is set on a hexagonal grid where players draw and place cards representing various elements like villages, forests, and mountains to expand into a toxic wasteland. The core gameplay loop involves finding card synergies to grow settlements. For instance, surrounding a village with other villages can upgrade it to a town, and further expansion can lead to a city.

As players push back the fog of the wasteland, they uncover new terrain and encounter threats such as wandering mutants and polluted areas that require cleansing. The roguelike elements come into play through semi-randomized objectives within each level and a limited card supply. Placing cards earns points, which are then used to unlock more cards, encouraging experimentation with complex combos for higher scores. The developer notes that players should expect a significant challenge and frequent losses, particularly when the game launches.

Toxic Frontier does not yet have a release date. Interested players can wishlist the game on Steam to stay updated on future announcements.
