Twitch is now enabling a setting that allows Amazon's generative AI content models to train on users' channels by default. This feature, titled "Allow your channel content to train generative AI content models at Amazon," is located within the user settings and is active unless explicitly turned off.

To opt out of this data usage, users must navigate to the Security and Privacy tab in their Twitch settings and uncheck the "Training for Generative AI" toggle. Twitch's privacy notice states that disabling this setting prevents the use of channel content for training generative AI models but does not exclude it from other uses by Amazon.

The decision to enable this setting by default has drawn criticism from users who prefer not to have their content used for generative AI training. A prominent post on Twitch's User Voice forums, advocating for all AI features to be opt-in rather than opt-out, has garnered over 13,000 votes and 4,000 comments, significantly outnumbering other suggestions.

This development occurs amid the increasing integration of generative AI features across various digital platforms. Concerns have been raised about the proliferation of AI-generated content, with some platforms, like LinkedIn, introducing options to report content suspected of being AI-generated.

Furthermore, the substantial infrastructure required to support and operate AI tools is cited as a primary driver of the current RAM shortage, which has led to increased prices for gaming hardware. The article suggests that AI presents a negative situation for gamers, particularly when features that utilize their data are enabled without explicit consent.
