Ubisoft has announced the closure of its Finnish studio RedLynx, the developer behind the Trials series. The company also confirmed significant layoffs at Ubisoft Singapore, the studio responsible for Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced.
"Today, we informed our teams of a proposal to close RedLynx in Finland, subject to the local change negotiation process, which would affect up to 52 positions," a Ubisoft spokesperson stated. "At Ubisoft Singapore, 70 positions have been impacted to align the studio with upcoming production needs. The studio remains an important part of Ubisoft's global production organisation."
The publisher added, "We deeply value the contributions of both teams and recognise the impact this may have on our colleagues. We are committed to supporting our teams throughout this process and conducting it with care and respect."
RedLynx was acquired by Ubisoft in 2011, following the success of Trials HD. The studio's last major standalone release was Trials Rising in 2019. Ubisoft has recently undergone a significant reorganisation, with several major franchises being placed under the new subsidiary Vantage Studios.
Antti Ilvessuo, creator of the Trials series, reflected on the news: "I'm proud of what we built at RedLynx, but my part in that story ended years ago. In 2012, Trials Evolution's riddle started, and its final chapter is set in 2113. So even something we made back then still has most of its future ahead of it. I don't know who - or what - will open that box. But someone has to care enough to carry the key all that way. That's what matters. Making something that will still mean something, something that has weight and history in a world that may be totally different in the future. Onwards!"
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced reportedly surpassed 3.5 million sales within two weeks of its release and is rumored to be heading to the Nintendo Switch 2. The game received a three-out-of-five-star rating in Eurogamer's review.
