Ubisoft has begun discussing its next Ghost Recon title, which live producer Irina-Gabriela Popa described as "a fun, fresh experience that stays true to everything that defines Ghost Recon – tactical action, large scale operations, credible military storytelling and, of course, the Ghost Unit.”

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Ghost Recon franchise, Ubisoft is also introducing a closed playtest program for the new game. The anniversary celebrations also include an update for the 2017 open-world title Ghost Recon: Wildlands. This update brings back an old Predator-themed mission and adds new "Last Rites" missions, which involve hunting a cult leader in a swampy region.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands Enhancements

Further enhancements to Wildlands include new settings for players to adjust, such as weather, enemy perception, and vehicle durability. The game is also receiving a technical overhaul focused on improved distance rendering, enhanced lighting and shadows, and sharper image quality targeting 4K resolution.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Giveaway

As part of the ongoing 25th-anniversary festivities, Ubisoft is offering free copies of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to players who sign up for Ubisoft Connect and redeem the game by August 13th. Future Soldier, originally released in 2012, was known for its adaptive camouflage technology. Server access for Future Soldier's multiplayer was discontinued in 2021.

Series' Recent History

The Ghost Recon series has faced challenges in recent years. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, released in 2019, received criticism, and a planned free-to-play PvP installment, Ghost Recon Frontline, was canceled in 2022. This cancellation occurred before Ubisoft's strategic shift to focus on major licensed properties in partnership with Tencent.
