Ubisoft has announced plans to share news regarding the Ghost Recon franchise in August, coinciding with the series' 25th anniversary. This announcement comes shortly after the company indicated a quieter period for new game releases.

"It’s been a while Ghosts!" the company stated in an announcement. "We know some of you saw some updates, we’ll have more to say on the 6th of August when we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Ghost Recon. Intel coming soon."

The prospect of new Ghost Recon information may be intended to invigorate the fanbase, especially considering the series' most recent entry is seven years old and had a mixed reception at launch, though it has seen improvements since. This comes at a time when Ubisoft, like other companies in the industry, faces significant challenges.

However, the announcement has also sparked speculation about potential updates on the long-awaited Splinter Cell remake. Despite both franchises originating from the Tom Clancy universe, indications suggest that news on Splinter Cell is unlikely to be part of the August Ghost Recon event. While the Splinter Cell X account has shown some activity, much of it relates to a Netflix animated series or anniversaries from previous years. The remake itself was announced in 2021, and its development has faced a significant setback with the departure and subsequent return of its director, David Grivel.

Furthermore, recent years have seen the cancellation of a Splinter Cell movie starring Tom Hardy, and a widely criticized social media post from Ubisoft featuring the wrong image of Sam Fisher, which some interpret as a deliberate attempt to provoke the community. These events, alongside the cancellation of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake and the prolonged development of Skull and Bones and Beyond Good and Evil 2, point to Ubisoft's struggles with timely releases and project management.

Fans holding out hope for Splinter Cell news may find a glimmer of anticipation in the series' own 25th anniversary, which falls on November 18, 2027. It is possible that Ubisoft is strategically waiting for significant milestones before sharing further details about the Splinter Cell remake. In the interim, updates on the Ghost Recon franchise are expected on August 6.
