Capcom has released a new patch for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on Steam, marking the game's first significant update in nearly a decade. While the patch notes mention "verified compatibility with Windows 11" and "miscellaneous bug fixes," players report that the update has introduced new problems, most notably breaking Jean Grey's Dark Phoenix ability.
Previously, Jean Grey's Dark Phoenix state was a powerful transformation that activated when she accumulated enough meter and had low health. According to community discussions, this state was a significant part of her gameplay, offering a substantial buff upon activation. However, following the patch, she now appears to die instead of transforming into Dark Phoenix. Other long-standing bugs, such as Frank West's zombie plungers, reportedly remain unfixed.
The update also includes a change that prevents players from executing the 'Kubota escape,' a maneuver that originated as an unintended bug but became an embraced community technique over the years. Furthermore, many community-developed mods for the game have been rendered inoperable by the new patch.
Capcom has not yet issued a statement regarding these issues, and players are awaiting a hotfix to address the newly introduced problems and restore the intended functionality of Jean Grey's abilities.
