The upcoming Los Angeles concert for Umamusume: Pretty Derby has been abruptly canceled by developers Cygames, with the company citing insurmountable visa issues as the cause. The event was scheduled to take place on October 22 and 23.
Cygames stated that despite extensive coordination and exploration of all possible avenues, the necessary visas for entry into the United States could not be obtained. "Although we have coordinated repeatedly with all parties concerned and explored every possible option in our efforts to make this event happen, we were unable to obtain the necessary visas for entry into the US, so we have come to the painful conclusion that holding the concerts is no longer possible," the announcement reads.
Digital and in-person tickets sold for the concert are being refunded. The developers issued a sincere apology to fans, known as "Trainers," for the inconvenience and concern caused by the late notice.
Options are reportedly being explored to address the frustration of fans who had planned to attend in person, though no specific measures have been announced. The statement concluded with apologies not only to fans but also to the Umamusume cast, company staff, and all involved parties.
Fan reactions on social media express disappointment and frustration, largely directed at the political realities leading to the cancellation rather than at Cygames. Users noted the difficulty and potential delays in obtaining visas, with some expressing sympathy for those who had already made travel arrangements.
This situation raises questions about Cygames' future plans for organizing events in the United States. The game industry has seen similar concerns arise regarding travel to US-based events, with some developers and executives expressing apprehension about attending GDC 2026 due to changes in immigration policy.
