The wait for the sequel to 2015's cult horror game Until Dawn is nearing its end. Sony announced during its recent State of Play showcase that Until Dawn 2 will launch on January 28, 2027, and offered a new trailer highlighting the game's signature choice-based scares and a grisly, campy tone.
The accompanying trailer showcased Mina, played by Camilla Senna, facing a difficult decision: "Sacrifice rooster" or "Slash palm." The trailer also depicted another cast member meeting a grim fate after a rickety rope bridge collapses. These moments underscore the unique decision-making that defined the original game.
Until Dawn 2 follows the cast of "Dead True," a fictional ghost hunting YouTube show. While their on-screen scares are staged for fame and virality, the new adventure thrusts them into genuine peril on a remote island. The game features a star-studded cast including Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things, Power Rangers) and Neil Newbon (Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion).
Development of Until Dawn 2 is being handled by Firesprite Games, known for their work on Horizon Call of the Mountain and The Persistence. Supermassive Games, the original developer of Until Dawn, has continued to explore the interactive slasher genre with The Dark Pictures Anthology series and The Quarry. According to a PlayStation Blog post, Dispatch developer AdHoc Studio is collaborating with Firesprite on Until Dawn 2, promising a "deeply layered story packed with rich characters, razor-sharp dialogue, fraught relationships, tough decisions, and yes… more than a few gruesome deaths."
A notable reveal from the latest trailer indicates that the "Dead True" cast will visit Blackwood Sanatorium to film an episode about tragic events that occurred 12 years prior. This location is familiar to fans of the original Until Dawn, serving as its primary setting. The trailer also shows one of the original game's monsters, the wendigo, attacking the "Dead True" team, hinting at further connections to its predecessor.
Until Dawn 2 is set to be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027.
