Developer One More Level has announced a delay for their upcoming Napoleonic first-person soulslike, Valor Mortis. The game was originally slated for release on September 24th but will now arrive on October 13th. This new release date places it in close proximity to other major titles like Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall.
Recent playable demos have highlighted the game's blend of tense, parry-focused sword combat and acrobatic movement, drawing comparisons to the studio's previous work, Ghostrunner. The first-person perspective aims to enhance the feeling of scale and dread when facing the game's enemies, particularly within confined spaces.
While the core combat emphasizes precise saber duels and deflection mechanics, the addition of freerunning and grappling elements has also been showcased. Although these acrobatic maneuvers appear distinct from the direct combat encounters, they leverage the developer's established expertise in fluid, fast-paced movement systems. The developers have even humorously suggested the possibility of an alternate history timeline connecting Valor Mortis to Ghostrunner, leaning into the thematic similarities of their respective movement mechanics.
