Valor Mortis, an upcoming first-person Soulslike from Ghostrunner developer One More Level, will launch at $40 / €40. This price point is intentionally lower than many other major titles releasing this autumn, a decision the developer attributes to the highly competitive release window.
In a statement, the development team acknowledged the game's quality and its roughly 20-hour story campaign, which they believe stands competitively against "full price" titles. However, they recognize that players have significant demands on their time and money during the fall season. "Still, this fall is stacked and there's high demand for your time and money," the developer stated.
This pricing strategy aims to make Valor Mortis more accessible alongside a wave of high-profile releases. The game's launch on October 13th places it in proximity to titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Final Fantasy Resonance. It also follows closely behind significant September releases, including Marvel's Wolverine and Silent Hill: Townfall. Valor Mortis was previously delayed from September 24th to accommodate this busy schedule.
Blake Rochkind, head of Valor Mortis publisher Lyrical Games, elaborated on the pricing decision in an interview, expressing that his primary concern was ensuring the price did not send the wrong message about the game's value. "We wanted to make sure that we send the right message to the consumer about why this is, and hopefully help them understand that this is a decision we're making out of confidence for the game," Rochkind said. He also highlighted that Valor Mortis is one of the few new intellectual properties launching this fall, making it potentially more challenging to capture player attention.
A Deluxe Edition of Valor Mortis is available for $60 / €60, which includes the base game, a planned story DLC for 2027, and a pack of weapon skins. The developer has also committed to releasing free updates in the coming weeks and months.
Valor Mortis is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will be available day one on PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass.
