Valor Mortis Slashes System Requirements Ahead of Launch

First-person Soulslike Valor Mortis has seemingly reduced its PC system requirements just as its October 13th launch approaches. Previously, the game's Steam page listed demanding hardware, requiring either an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-11700 for the CPU, and an AMD Radeon RX 6700 or Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super for the GPU. These requirements have now been updated to list an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i5-10600K as minimum processors, and an RX 5600 XT or GTX 1660 Ti as minimum graphics cards.

While the SSD storage requirement has slightly increased from 50GB to 60GB, the overall reduction in CPU and GPU demands makes the game more accessible to a wider range of players. Developers One More Level have not officially announced these changes, and communication regarding confirmation has not yet been received, suggesting these may not be the absolute final requirements, though their proximity to the launch date makes this unlikely.

Early testing indicates that the game remains demanding. Using a GTX 1070 at 1080p resolution with Low settings and TSR upscaling at 67%, Valor Mortis maintained frame rates between 40-50fps, averaging 41fps in a challenging open-air section. This performance, while not unplayable, still exhibited stuttering and sudden frame rate drops, similar to observations made with a newer RTX 4060. Achieving smoother performance appears to necessitate more VRAM than currently available on older cards.
