Valve has provided a replacement Steam Machine free of charge to a customer in the UK after the original unit was stolen from their doorstep. The incident involved a Redditor, known as mdumtshali, who had ordered the expensive piece of hardware, only for it to disappear after delivery.

The delivery driver reportedly left the Steam Machine unattended after taking a photograph as proof of delivery, despite the item's significant cost, estimated to be around £1,000. Upon returning home, mdumtshali discovered the package was missing, attributing the loss to "porch pirates."

Following the theft, the customer contacted Steam Support. Initially, support staff advised checking with neighbors to see if the parcel had been misdelivered. When the unit could not be located, Valve agreed to send a replacement at no cost. The redditor expressed relief and gratitude, stating they initially feared losing the substantial sum.

The situation also brings to light consumer protection laws. According to the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, sellers are responsible for ensuring goods reach the buyer. This legal framework suggests that Valve's action, while commendable, aligns with its obligations under UK law to ensure the safe delivery of purchased items.

The absence of a required signature for such a high-value delivery was noted as a potential point of failure in preventing the incident. While consumer protections may vary significantly in other countries, this particular case saw a resolution that satisfied the customer and adhered to local regulations.
