Valve has introduced a more detailed timeline system for Steam Controller orders, aiming to provide customers with clearer estimates of when they can expect to receive their reservations. This update comes in response to initial demand that exceeded Valve's expectations following the controller's launch.
Managing Expectations
The new system presents reservation holders with one of three broad delivery windows: by September 2026, by December 2026, or sometime in 2027. Valve stated that these simplified timelines are intended to help manage customer expectations regarding order fulfillment. Those placed in the 2027 window will receive additional information about specific timing at a later date. Customers who have not yet ordered a controller will likely be given a 2027 estimate, as they will be joining the end of the reservation queue.
Upon receiving an email confirmation for their reservation, customers will have a 72-hour period to complete the purchase before the order is moved to the next person in line. Valve has indicated that they have no plans to cease production of the Steam Controller but are using this system to better align demand with manufacturing capabilities for the remainder of the year.
Valve also mentioned that its other hardware, the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, are slated for release this summer after experiencing delays attributed to memory-related issues. For those still considering the Steam Controller, a review of its features and drawbacks is available.
