Vanillaware Veteran Forms New Studio, Announces Multimedia RPG "Dawngazer"

Takafumi Noda, a developer recognized for his contributions to Vanillaware titles such as Unicorn Overlord and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, has established his own studio, Ignisphere Studios. The studio's inaugural project is an action RPG titled Dawngazer, slated for a 2028 release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The development is being supported by Monochrome Corporation and Kadokawa, with Good Smile Company set to publish.

Ignisphere Studios envisions the project not merely as a game but as a transmedia intellectual property. Noda explained that while the game will focus on the player's direct experience, other media can explore different facets of the world, such as its various countries and characters. "I think it’s interesting that novels and merchandise can show places, characters, and history that can’t be fully depicted in a game," Noda stated in an interview with Automaton Media. This approach allows for a broader narrative canvas beyond the confines of traditional game development.

A teaser trailer offers a glimpse of Dawngazer's artistic direction, featuring a female soldier protagonist navigating a vibrant town populated by humans and humanoids. The trailer also introduces other characters, including fellow soldiers and a feline creature, set against a backdrop of folk music. It concludes with a somber moment as the protagonist tends to the graves of a royal family, hinting at a narrative with emotional depth.

Noda, who departed from Vanillaware in March 2025, is known for his meticulous attention to detail in design and scenario writing. His work at Vanillaware demonstrated a distinctive artistic flair, often characterized by hand-drawn aesthetics. The Ignisphere Project aims to leverage this expertise to build an expansive world designed to accommodate diverse storytelling formats across various mediums.
