Virtue and a Sledgehammer will launch on October 27, developer Selkie Harbour and Deconstructeam announced during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct. A new trailer showcased the game's "unbelievably metal" quote: "A machine will never hate itself enough to become better."
The game, previously shown in June, combines a psychological narrative with extensive environmental destruction. Players will return to their hometown and dismantle it piece by piece, confronting androids that have digitized former residents. The destructive gameplay has drawn comparisons to Red Faction: Guerrilla.
The trailer also provided glimpses into the protagonist's past, featuring flashbacks of significant life events, including moments of both connection and violence. These personal moments, coupled with increasingly unsettling therapy-like questions posed in the trailer, suggest a deep exploration of the human psyche.
Virtue and a Sledgehammer aims to blend emotionally nuanced storytelling with satisfying interactive gameplay, including the act of destruction and creative interaction with the game world. The game is available to wishlist on Steam, where a demo can also be found.
