Marvel's VisionQuest showrunner Terry Matalas revealed at New York Comic Con 2026 that he and his writing team were granted significant creative freedom in developing the Disney+ series. While there were initial discussions with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige about potential story directions, Matalas stated that they "pretty much did exactly what we wanted."
Matalas explained that the core directive from Feige was straightforward: Vision must reunite with his son. "The rest is up to you," Matalas recalled Feige telling him.
This mandate provided a clear anchor for the series, which explores Vision's journey of self-discovery following his separation from White Vision at the conclusion of WandaVision. Matalas approached the narrative by considering the passage of time and Vision's quest to understand his evolving identity. "What has [Vision] been up to? Where has he been? I think him being on this identity quest, trying to figure out, 'Am I the old Vision? Am I something new? What am I?' It sort of all came together pretty quick," Matalas shared.
The showrunner also discussed his process of determining Vision's narrative path, specifically the idea of encountering Ultron. "How do I get to Ultron?" Matalas pondered, referencing Ultron's presumed demise in previous MCU installments. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 14.
Early reactions to VisionQuest, following its screening at NYCC, have been largely positive, with some describing it as a "worthy successor to WandaVision."
