Walmart is attempting to rectify its failure to fulfill pre-orders for the limited edition Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary-themed Nintendo Switch 2. The console, released in anticipation of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, sold out rapidly, leading Walmart to oversell and subsequently cancel numerous customer orders just one day before launch.
To appease disgruntled fans, the retail giant is providing affected customers with either a $519 gift card or the opportunity to re-secure their reservation for the special edition console. Customers will receive the gift card within 10 days of notification, while those offered a chance to reclaim their order have 48 hours to act.
Reports indicate that most customers received one form of compensation, though a small number reported receiving both the gift card and the reservation opportunity. The $519 gift card effectively covers the full cost of the console, presenting a significant win for customers who faced disappointment with their initial pre-orders.
