Walton Goggins Cast as Villain in Miami Vice '85

Walton Goggins is set to portray a villain in the forthcoming film Miami Vice '85. According to Deadline, Goggins will play a henchman and assassin operating under the direction of John Leguizamo's cartel kingpin character, who serves as the film's primary antagonist.

Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler are slated to star as Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett, respectively. The film is intended as a period reboot of the original television series, not a sequel to Michael Mann's 2006 film adaptation or an extension of the original source material.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for F1 and Top Gun: Maverick, Miami Vice '85 has been rescheduled for a May 2028 release, a shift from its initial 2027 target. Filming is expected to commence this year, suggesting further casting announcements may be forthcoming.

Goggins is recognized for his numerous roles playing complex and often treacherous characters, including appearances in Justified, The Shield, The Hateful Eight, and Ant-Man and the Wasp. He most recently gained significant attention for his portrayal of The Ghoul in the video game adaptation Fallout.
