Blizzard has released "Forsaken Kingdom," a new two-part campaign for Warcraft 3: Reforged, the first new campaign content for the Real-Time Strategy title since its 2003 "The Frozen Throne" expansion. The announcement was made at BlizzCon, with the expansion launching concurrently.

"Forsaken Kingdom" includes a prologue that delves into the backstory of Arthas, a central antagonist in World of Warcraft's "Wrath of the Lich King" expansion. Following the prologue, the main campaign centers on the Undercity, the capital of the Forsaken, featuring characters such as Sylvanas, Putress, and the Scarlet Crusade.

In addition to the new campaign, Warcraft 3: Reforged receives a free 3.0 update. The 2020 remaster of the 2002 game received a lukewarm reception at launch, but this surprise expansion and update may serve to improve its standing among players. "Forsaken Kingdom" joins a growing trend of older games receiving new content, with titles like "Thief Remastered: The Tarnished Mirror," "Quake: Dawn of the Machine," and "The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past" also receiving surprise expansions.
