Warcraft 3: Reforged, Blizzard's remake of the classic real-time strategy game, has received a significant surprise update today. This includes a new paid downloadable content campaign titled 'Forsaken Kingdom,' which features Arthas and Sylvanas in a story set after the events of Warcraft 3.

The new campaign revisits Arthas's sacking of Lordaeron and its immediate aftermath, incorporating familiar locations like the Undercity and Naxxramus, as well as factions such as the Scarlet Crusade. Blizzard states that 'Forsaken Kingdom' will offer over 30 hours of gameplay and introduce a new neutral hero, the Forsaken Paladin. The update also brings improvements to the world editor and other feature tweaks.

Alongside the paid campaign, all players of Warcraft 3: Reforged will receive a free update that enhances the game's graphics and features. The 'Forsaken Kingdom' campaign can be purchased as a standalone product or as part of a bundle.

Warcraft 3: Reforged launched in 2020 to considerable criticism. Players reported numerous bugs, missing features from the original game, and unwelcome technical changes. While Blizzard has made efforts to address some of these issues since its release, this new campaign content comes as a surprise, suggesting a continued commitment to the title from the developer.
