Wardogs developer Bulkhead has acknowledged significant missteps in the launch of its second season, with CEO Joe Brammer stating, "We f***ed up."
The season introduced XP and cash bonuses for players who chose to play as the Blue Team, an attempt to improve the team's standing. However, this experiment quickly backfired as experienced players exploited the boosts to rapidly upgrade their gear and weapons, leading to Blue Team's dominance.
"This was an experiment — we thought we'd have this in for about a week," Brammer explained. The bonuses, which offered 5% extra cash and 2.5% extra XP, were removed via a hotfix shortly after their implementation. "The only comment that annoyed me is when people say, 'They didn't address the core issues [with Blue Team]," he added, referencing team spawn placement. "Well, actually, we did rebalance the entire spawn setup for Bakurani, and we did test that out quite a lot and see that the difference had balanced out."
Brammer expressed regret over deviating from their tested balance, stating, "We should have just stuck to our guns with that, really, but here we are — we tried, it didn't work, this is us holding our hands up."
Wardogs is currently in Early Access, and the developers have faced challenges keeping up with the game's unexpected popularity. This includes managing its development for console release, where certain features have been scaled back to ensure compatibility with the Xbox Series S. Season 2 also introduced a new rain system that significantly impacts gameplay by reducing visibility and altering audio cues for player movement.
