The tactical first-person shooter Wardogs has achieved significant commercial success since its early access launch on Steam, selling 2 million copies within its first five days. Released on September 10, the game quickly became one of the most-played titles on Valve's platform, reaching a peak of 428,666 concurrent players.
Bulkhead reported that the game sold 1 million copies on its launch day and an additional 250,000 by the second day. In a social media post, the developer expressed gratitude, stating, "Beyond humbled. We made a game we wanted to play with friends. Watching you play it with yours has been the best."
Initial player reviews on Steam were mixed due to launch issues, but have since improved to 'Very Positive.' Some players have humorously opted to avoid the game's 'Lonestar' faction, perceiving it as attracting less skilled players who tend to lose more matches. This phenomenon has led to viral gameplay clips showcasing Wardogs' chaotic moments.
Wardogs is expected to remain in early access for one to two years, with a console version planned for 2028. Bulkhead intends to use this period to expand content, enhance systems, refine balance, and incorporate player feedback. The Steam page notes that the price is likely to increase upon full release to reflect the more complete experience, with early access players benefiting from a lower cost and the opportunity to influence development.
Future updates are planned to include more maps, weapons, vehicles, and gameplay variety, with a focus on developing deeper progression systems, a stronger seasonal meta game, and rewards for player impact beyond individual matches. Bulkhead also aims to add new vehicle types, including fighter jets, expand weapon categories, introduce additional objective variations, and continuously improve the game's balance, performance, and stability throughout its early access phase and beyond.
