Wardogs Streamer Banned for Exploiting Building Mechanics for In-Game Wealth

A streamer known as KatieRouu has been banned from the first-person shooter Wardogs for allegedly exploiting the game's building mechanics to generate significant in-game money. Wardogs allows players to earn in-game currency through various activities, including logistics and constructing forward-operating bases (FOBs), which can be converted into a premium currency called gold at the end of a season.

The Exploit Method

The controversy centers around KatieRouu and their squad's method of placing numerous sniper lookout towers around a FOB. They would then intentionally allow the enemy team to capture the base, switching the ownership of these structures. Following this, KatieRouu and their team would position themselves in another FOB, supplied with ammunition, and use mortars to attack the newly captured base. This tactic reportedly generated substantial in-game money through destroying enemy structures and receiving assists for supplying ammunition, without contributing meaningfully to their team's objectives.

Developer Response

Joe Brammer, CEO of Wardogs developer Bulkhead, addressed the situation in a public response. He acknowledged KatieRouu's support for the game but stated that the streamer was taking advantage of an exploit not intended by the developers. Brammer noted that the ill-gotten gains were quickly converted into gold bars and used to purchase cosmetic items, indicating a deliberate monetization of the exploit rather than organic gameplay.

Brammer confirmed that the ban was issued by the game's ban team and that the exploit has since been fixed in preparation for Season 2. The developer also stated that data tracking for such behavior has been implemented. Despite the streamer's ban, some players have defended the actions, arguing that legitimate game mechanics were used. However, the official Wardogs Twitter account reiterated that "known cash & xp exploit abuse will no longer be tolerated" and that the punishments are final.
