Warframe will introduce its long-referenced Tau star system with a major expansion slated for release in December. This free update, titled Warframe: Tau, will expand the game's universe beyond the Origin System for the first time in its thirteen-year history.
The expansion was confirmed with a December 2026 release window during Digital Extremes' Devstream 198 on October 30. This reveal followed an earlier glimpse at the content during TennoCon. Warframe: Tau includes a new single-player story chapter and introduces the game's 67th playable Warframe, Brysko. Voiced by Matt Mercer, Brysko is designed with a noir detective aesthetic and will be unlockable through gameplay or purchasable directly from the Warframe Market.
Upon completing the new story content, players will gain access to two new locations within the Tau system: Perita and Fornax. These areas will be accessible via a dedicated Tau System Star Chart. The expansion will also bring new cosmetic items for the Koumei and Nezha Warframes, with further content planned to flesh out the Tau system over time.
Digital Extremes Community Director Megan Everett emphasized that the introduction of the Tau system will not come at the expense of existing content. "The Origin System is not being left behind," Everett stated. "While we focus right now on Tau, we have so many stories to tell, and now just have more places to share them.”
Warframe: Tau is set to launch on all available platforms in December. This update follows closely on the heels of other recent announcements, including the November 6 release of Soulframe Open Preludes.
