King Art Games has stated that Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 will launch with a single-player campaign larger than any other real-time strategy game. The developer claims the campaign content at launch will surpass that of all previous titles in the Dawn of War series.
Dawn of War 4 will feature four distinct single-player campaigns, one for each of its launch factions: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and Adeptus Mechanicus. Collectively, these campaigns will offer over 70 missions. For context, the original Dawn of War had 11 campaign missions, while Dawn of War 3 had 17. Creative director Jan Theysen emphasized that each of Dawn of War 4's individual campaigns is larger than the entire campaign of the first game, not just in mission count but also in potential gameplay hours.
Theysen elaborated that each campaign includes branching storylines that feed into the overall narrative, meaning not all missions will be encountered in a single playthrough. He estimated that an Ork campaign playthrough would involve around 14 to 15 missions out of a possible 18.
The game will include a tutorial with two missions played as the Astra Militarum (formerly the Imperial Guard). Following this, each faction's campaign will introduce players to its unique mechanics. The Ork campaign's first mission, for instance, will cover the faction's economy, build system, upgrades, and stratagems. Similarly, the Adeptus Mechanicus campaign will introduce players to their specific elements, with one mission focusing on unlocking and utilizing Imperial Knights.
While King Art Games has previously detailed Dawn of War 4's competitive multiplayer, the developer is highlighting the extensive single-player offering for fans of the genre. The post-launch roadmap includes additional single-player content, such as Crusade Mode and Map Packs in early 2027, followed by another map pack and the Guzcutta Last Stand Crusade in early spring. A mission editor and a fourth map pack are slated for early summer, alongside the Guzcutta Last Stand Crusade. Two paid expansions are also planned: the Blood Ravens story prologue in spring and the Aftermath campaign expansion with a new faction in summer.
