The digital adaptation of the grim and perilous fantasy sports game Blood Bowl is set to receive a significant overhaul. Following the insolvency of publisher Nacon, strategy game specialist Slitherine has acquired the license. The upcoming title, officially named Warhammer Blood Bowl, is developed by Cyanide and is slated for a fall release.

Slitherine's ambition is to establish Warhammer Blood Bowl as the definitive digital version of the game, with plans for ongoing support and expansion. Marco Alessandro Minoli, director of publishing at Slitherine, stated, "Our goal with Warhammer Blood Bowl is simple: we want this to become the definitive Blood Bowl videogame—not just at launch, but for years to come. Our vision is to support and expand it over time, turning it into a living, constantly evolving experience, just as we've successfully done with other Warhammer titles such as Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector and Warhammer 40,000: Gladius."

This new iteration is not a complete reboot but rather an update to Blood Bowl 3, bringing it in line with the tabletop game's current "third season" edition. The update will introduce two new playable teams: the undead Tomb Kings and the Bretonnian forces. Additionally, a new "Rumble Mode" will offer faster matches with seven-player teams. A demo featuring this new mode is expected at the end of summer.

Players who already own Blood Bowl 3 will receive Warhammer Blood Bowl for free. Previously purchased DLC, including additional teams and cosmetic items, will carry over. This suggests a continued model of separately purchased teams and customizations, a characteristic noted as aligning with the punishing nature of the Blood Bowl experience.
