Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons has resurfaced after a period of silence, offering players their first look at its third-person gameplay. The reveal trailer, showcased during Gamescom Opening Night Live, detailed the game's spell-slinging combat, emphasizing magic and action over roleplaying and a direct replication of the tabletop experience.

This departure from traditional D&D game formulas may not resonate with players seeking a more faithful adaptation of the source material. The trailer also raised questions about character abilities, such as protagonist Katri's seemingly unlimited spell slots. However, the game's dark fantasy aesthetic, fast-paced spellcasting, and gameplay that evokes titles like The Witcher have generated interest.

The game's setting was also further illuminated, placing Katri's journey within the Domains of Dread from Ravenloft. The trailer featured Darkon, the largest and most powerful of these domains, hinting at the potential inclusion of its Darklord, Azalin.

Warlock was initially announced at The Game Awards in 2025 with a trailer highlighting Katri. Invoke Studios previously stated that players will exclusively control Katri, though she may form alliances with other characters encountered during her adventures. Adding to the D&D lore within the game, Maggie Robertson, known for her roles in Resident Evil: Village and Baldur's Gate 3, has joined the project as Tasha. Tasha, a significant figure in Dungeons & Dragons lore, also known as Iggwilv, Zybilna, and The Witch Queen, is the creator of the Domain of Delight, Prismeer, and a powerful archfey. In Warlock, Tasha acts as Katri's patron, bestowing immense power in exchange for her obedience.

This title marks Invoke Studios' second foray into D&D game development. The studio, formerly known as Tuque Studios, was also responsible for the 2021 release D&D: Dark Alliance. Warlock is currently slated for a 2027 release.
