Invoke Studios' upcoming Dungeons & Dragons title, Warlock, will not feature romance options, a departure from mechanics seen in critically acclaimed games like Baldur's Gate 3. Dominic Guay, studio head at Invoke Studios, confirmed this in an interview at Gamescom 2026, stating that romantic pursuits are "out of the question for now in her life" as the protagonist, Kaatri, is singularly focused on her core quest.
While Warlock is an open-world game, Guay explained that it offers a more narrowly defined player experience compared to Baldur's Gate 3, with a single core narrative to follow. Kaatri will encounter various characters, including Skev, an imp who serves as her companion, and will develop relationships with them. However, these interactions will not extend to romantic entanglements. Guay described these relationships as forming a "found family" for Kaatri.
Guay elaborated that while Kaatri's primary focus is her quests, players will gradually uncover deeper layers of her personality throughout the game. The studio intends to leverage its written narrative to fully explore these character aspects, realizing them with detailed cinematics and ensuring critical story beats are delivered with precision to tell a specific story.
This approach means Warlock will not be as lengthy as a typical Dungeons & Dragons campaign, reflecting the developers' aim for a more crafted and focused experience rather than one offering near-limitless player-driven divergence. The Dungeons & Dragons IP in Warlock is described as more of a setting and thematic foundation rather than a strict dictation of all gameplay systems and narrative possibilities.
