The popular young adult book series, Warriors, is finally receiving a significant video game adaptation. Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest, a turn-based RPG, is slated for release on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch this fall.
Players will have the opportunity to create their own cat, select a clan, and embark on an original quest across the familiar landscapes of plains, forests, rivers, and swamps. The game's trailer offered a glimpse into its combat system, showing players and their clanmates facing off against various threats such as snakes, badgers, and dogs. Traversal mechanics appear to allow for immersive exploration, including climbing trees and racing through the wilderness. The game also plans to feature iconic characters from the books, with Brightheart and Cloudtail shown in early previews.
Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest is being developed by TRAILMARK Games, known for titles including Cruis'n Blast and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants. The game is an officially licensed adaptation, following the release of Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition on Roblox in 2021. An expansion for the Roblox game, Warrior Cats: Lake Territory, is also in development, along with a mobile game planned for 2027.
This video game release coincides with the upcoming animated series adaptation of the Warriors novels. Revealed in June, the CG animated show is being produced by Original Force for Tencent Video and Coolabi, with A.C. Bradley serving as showrunner and Rodrigo Blaas directing. Concept art for the series was released in July, and the show is expected to premiere in 2028.
