Developer Steelkrill Studio has revealed Where Dolls Hang, a survival horror game inspired by the infamous Mexican island Isla de las Muñecas. Players will step into the role of a detective tasked with investigating disappearances in this notoriously haunted location.

The gameplay involves players examining bodies, collecting clues, marking evidence, and documenting crime scenes with an in-game camera, all while evading the dangers present in the game's environment. A unique mechanic allows players to find clues via VHS tapes, which can then be viewed in a safehouse. Curiously, these VHS players will also support the viewing of public domain horror films.

Among the films confirmed to be watchable within the game is George A. Romero's 1968 classic, Night of the Living Dead. The film is in the public domain due to a copyright omission during its initial release. The developers have not yet revealed what other public domain horror movies might be featured in Where Dolls Hang, but potential titles could include Manos: The Hand of Fate or Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Where Dolls Hang is slated for release this year. Further details can be found on the game's Steam page.
