The possibility of Grand Theft Auto 6 launching on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 remains uncertain, with Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard indicating that the decision lies with Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games. "That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time," Pritchard stated in a recent interview with Variety.
Should GTA 6 eventually make its way to the Switch 2, it would follow a precedent of Rockstar titles appearing on Nintendo hardware. However, the company has yet to bring its more recent major releases, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, to the hybrid handheld console. Virtuous, a studio responsible for porting L.A. Noire to the Switch, has expressed interest in adapting both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for Nintendo's platform. "The team is eager to adapt Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Nintendo Switch," technical director Fong told Pocket Tactics. "We’re personally big fans and believe these games can shine again on the Switch, delighting even more players."
Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are among the top-selling games of all time not currently available on the Switch 2. Other notable titles in this category include PUBG and Wii Sports, the latter of which has a successor, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, slated for release on October 22. For fans eager for a Grand Theft Auto experience on the Switch 2 in the interim, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is already available on the console. The ongoing popularity of GTA Online also presents a potential avenue for Rockstar to continue supporting the Switch 2, should a direct port of GTA 6 not materialize.
